The UFC Returns to Denver, Colorado!!! Previously reported with nothing but the announcement to report has now become a “Fight Night” to look forward to! Many intriguing fights have been announced!
Brandon Vera versus Jon Jones was officially announced for March 21 at “UFC on Versus” during the WEC 46 broadcast, headlining the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first card on the network. Vera heads into the fight coming off a loss to Randy “The Natural” Couture at UFC 105 in an extremely close bout. At the end of the night Couture got the unanimous decision nod. Jon Jones is coming off a disqualification loss to Matt Hamill at “The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale.” Jones was dominating the fight and landed a series of illegal elbows rendering Hamill unable to continue.
Recently announced, the co-main event for this show is top ten heavyweight, Junior Dos Santos, returns to action to face fellow Brazilian, Gabriel Gonzaga. The two heavyweights were originally scheduled to meet at UFC 108 earlier this month, but Gonzaga fell prey to a staph infection that put him out of action. With a win, Dos Santos could be poised for a shot at the heavyweight title in the near future, while Gonzaga looks to get back into the title picture himself with this fight.
Anthony “Rumble” Johnson had to pull out of his highly anticipated March 21 “UFC on Versus” bout with John “Doomsday” Howard (13-4) due to a knee injury. In place of Johnson is UFC new comer Daniel Roberts(9-0).
